A number of new California laws take effect January 1, 2023. Here are a select few that may affect you or your business:
Jaywalking: Pedestrians will now be permitted to jaywalk – cross the street outside of an intersection – so long as the crossing is done when safe to do so.
Pay Transparency: Employers now must provide salary ranges for available job positions to applicants and employees and comply with new pay data reporting requirements based on gender and race.
Pink Tax: Gender-based pricing on products, based on who the product is marketed toward, is now prohibited.
Minimum Wage Increase: The California minimum wage will be $15.50 per hour. However, many California counties and municipalities have ordinances that provide for an even higher minimum wage for employees within their jurisdiction so check with your legal counsel to assure you are paying the correct minimum wage for your operations.
